Ranola
Runner-up
at US Open!!! |
The finals saw Fisher
taking on Filipino newcomer Iris Ranola. Ranola had already
scored wins over #1 ranked Allison Fisher and #2 ranked Ga-Young
Kim in this event, but nerves brought her Cinderella story
to an end against Fisher. Fisher already led 5-0 before Ranola
could get on the board, and the sixth rack would be the only
rack Ranola would win as Fisher cruised to a 7-1 win and first
place on the points list.

| Inspiration! |
December 2008 a few
friends got together to travel up to Bingington, NY to visit
long time friend: Florence Fuller, owner of the Pocket Billiard
Lounge (retired). Florence held many WPBA sanctioned events
for the women over the years. Many of the pros today got their
start in her room. Without the help and support of Florence
they would not be where they are today. Dawn Hopkins, Linda
Haywood Shea, Billy Billing, Jean Balukas just to name a few.
She’s no longer at the realm of the business but she
is still shooting a mean game of nine ball. She gets out a
couple times a week to remind the wiper snappers they have
a lot to learn…
When Florence bought this business she didn’t play at
all. Like so many of us, she started a business and fell in
love with a the sport. You get some sort of fever; you can’t
stop thinking of it. You play out games in your sleep; we
have all dreamt that perfect run.
Thanks to Florence Fuller, many women through the years had
an opportunity to fulfill their dream. A special thanks to
the "Wanderer" Billy for helping make it happen. |

JPNEWT
is proud to be a women's tour that is recognized
by the WPBA. We started many years ago by Touring
Pro Dawn Hopkins when there was a need for a place
for the women to play in the Northeast part of
the country.
At this point, most of our tournaments take place
in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. We
would especially like to thank Primetime Billiards
in South Amboy, NJ and Comet Billiards in Parsippany,
NJ for their continued support! Historically,
all of our events have included cash prizes and
a qualifier to the WPBA pro events.
Morgan Steinman and Caroline Pao are our most
recent Players of the Year and both are now finding
success at the next level. 2007 had Morgan take
first place and Caroline second at the end of
the year. Zinnie Panju, Supadra Boopasook, Candi
Rego, Karen Coor, My-Hahn Lac, Sharon O'Hanlon,
Buffy Jolie, and Erica Testa rounded out the top
10. We have had many other notable players from
across the country join our events and compete.
In 2008, longtime tour coordinator Barbara Stock
is turning over the leadership reins to Linda
Haywood Shea. We have appreciated all of Barbara's
efforts and look forward to the expertise and
relationships to come under Linda's guidance.
She has a long history with the WPBA and the Northeast
tours. Linda can be reached at sheaece@aol.com.
Thank you, for your support of women in billiards!!
